The Beginning

Since the beginning of time, countless Worlds scattered everywhere throughout the space; each teeming with life forms of many shapes and sizes. While many usually contain only a single world, others have several worlds; combined to make a single universe. Regardless whether the Worlds are made of one or made of many, they are bound together in an even greater universe and intertwined with each other as a whole. All were under the watch of four great beings; so powerful and vast they were considered gods in their own world where they dwell and rule over other mythical and divine beings that they call home. Though some Worlds had civil wars and conflicts within their own worlds, the people of the worlds lived in relative peace under the watchful eyes of the four deities. Only a few had knowledge of the truth of their existence and passed down to those worthy of such knowledge; the people neither were unaware of their wary protectors nor even dreamed of the existence of other worlds. Only whispered rumors and faded tales of out – worldly places and dying legends of the mysterious great gods themselves were all the people knew and told throughout the generations.

Among these legends speaks of a story, a story that speaks of great gems, the source of life of the worlds. It is said that somewhere in each universe deep within a certain single world there sleeps a great gem that is believed to be the source of all life of the worlds. These gems, the source of life and energy the world, without it, all life and existence fades into an eternal emptiness and nothingness. Most know nothing that such a thing exist, but the few who knew of its existence, say that those who can obtain it, can either control or destroy that world. It was that reason alone that the gods decided that the existence and the location of the gems should be kept secret from all. But, even secrets can be told through other ways. What these jewels were, where did it come from or even where it was always has been a mystery and completely unknown since the time of creation. Some say the gem was an enormous jewel that could tower over the tallest of trees, or even as small as a pebble. Some didn't believe that the source of a world could come from a single place. Perhaps from more than one source or perhaps more than one gem resides in the world's core. Others speculate that these jewels, whether one or many, are not mere rocks but are sentient that they could feel and even think, like a living being.

For a time, various tales of the gems spread throughout the worlds. As people of all kinds journeyed to find the jewels within their worlds in hopes of either fortune or power. With only the rumors as their guides; none were ever successful and soon the tales of these great gems faded from the minds of the people and became a distant myth, a near forgotten memory. Like all stories, tales that are born, live and die though the flow of time. But no one not even the divine beings such as gods could foresee nor observe everything.

One day after ages of undisturbed peace, a phenomenon unlike anything had ever happened occurred. One of the Gods suddenly noticed one of the worlds suddenly became dark and desolate. Shocked at what he saw, he consulted to his three fellow gods. They too saw the now shadowy world and they were horrified. Desperately wanting to find out what happened they sent a scout to that world to discover the cause of the world's demise. It wasn't long until the envoy returned severely wounded, but managed to inform them the reason of the fall of the world. The world was taken over by a group of strange beings that entered the world. He did not know who they were or where they came from, all he knew was that they were dark and they were evil. They were led by an individual whose name he feared to utter. Evil and darkness seemed to emanate from him; he held a terrible yet powerful force.  

The individual once lived in that world; what his birth name, where he was born or what his life was he did not know. Only that he was born an ordinary man, a low status doomed to a life of meager possessions and a life of hardship. But despite his poor beginnings the man was ambitious with a mind teeming with dreams of conquest and an insatiable hunger for control, authority, power and wealth. One day he found lost records and learned about the legends of other worlds beyond his own and of course about the gems, the world's source of life. The messenger did not know how but the man had somehow discovered the secret path of the world's life gem that had been laid undiscovered for eons until now and found his way to the place where the world's gem sleeps. And what he found that was not written in the records was that instead of one he found ten gems. Nine large crystal – like jewels giving off brilliant lights, each with a unique colors of its own, standing in a circle with a tenth jewel, much larger than the rest resting in the middle. It was more beautiful than the rest as a white light shimmered from the center crystal with countless colors as it painted by rainbows.

Enthralled by its beauty and with the belief the gems will give him want he wanted he approached the crystal, reached up and touched it. The moment his hand touched its pure surface a powerful surge of pure energy shot from the jewel and into the man's body. But instead of fazing him darkness streamed from his body and surrounded the gem tainting its light with darkness. An immense darkness was born from his heart and into the crystal.

After the crystal turned black it shot out more black light into the other nine jewels. Thus they all became foully corrupted and world began to change. The sea and rivers were polluted, some drained bone dry. Plants and trees slowly wilted and died. The sky became like a dark shadow as the sun itself was blocked by the moon in an eclipse basking the world in black. As the man stood in front of the gem, he too had changed. He felt power, tremendous power coursing through him as if darkness itself was powering his body. It was then he took his new found power and the power of the gem as his own.

The messenger managed to learn his plans and goals which made the deities look on with horror. The Dark One plans to create an empire of darkness; he wants to cloak the worlds, bring them under his direct control and rule them in his shadowy kingdom. But to do that he needs the power of the worlds' gems. He somehow managed to use his newly acquired power to craft strange creatures to do his bidding. He plans to send his minions to the other worlds and locate the other gems so he can pour his doom, wickedness and his malice into the gems and reshape the world to his desire. They intend to move from world to world claiming it's the gems one by one to form his empire. If they found a world to his liking, they would take the world as their own. However if they found a world undesirable, they will simply destroy it and move on.

Horrified that such a thing happened and letting it happen under their watch, they wasted no time in preparing to oppose this evil menace that threatens to engulf the worlds in total despair. The leader of the four gods sent the other three to gather strong warriors brave enough to accept the task of defending the worlds against this menace. Two brought with them four spirits; Aqua, a being of water who can conjure and manipulate water, Aero an entity of wind with the power to control the wind and air, Ignis a spirit with the power of fire, and Gaia an entity who can control and manipulate all things earth and make plants flourish. The other two found five more warriors; Eve, an entity with light and lightning at his command, Krystal a spirit of ice, Artemis who gains his power from the moon and stars, Steel, with the ability to control any metal and Spiret who possesses great spiritual powers and control of the spirits. With the nine entities, the three great gods sent them to combat the Dark One and his band of minions and stop his conquest. The nine entities then set out to thwart the now growing threat. However, they saw that many worlds were taken over with their gems tainted by the Dark One, fortunately none were destroyed . . . . yet.

The journey was long and perilous as they encountered many challenges and faced many of the Dark One's minions who blocked their way. But fortunately for the nine spirits they too found others who joined their cause to fight. Many of them somehow possess similar but weaker versions of elemental powers as the nine warriors and although the cause of their powers was puzzling they were valuable assets. These were the first Guardians. Many obstacles have blocked their path and challenged their powers. Yet with their growing allies and friends they managed to overcome any hindrance. Their brave determination and honorable resolve they also found a way to reverse the tainted gems and return the worlds to their natural states.

After enduring countless battles and purifying many worlds they at last they entered the first world the dark ones shrouded, the world that served as their dwelling place in his shadowy realm. He was in a terrible rage that his followers and his plans were being hindered by a group made only of nine mere beings. He called his best warriors and set out to destroy them. The nine spirits and their allies, led by Eve, charged forward on an all out battle. The battle was long and tiring. Eight of the spirits fought against the minions while Eve fought against the Dark One. The entities and their allies fought bravely, but it seemed that they accomplished little. The Dark One's henchmen were strong and seemed to be growing stronger by some unseen force. Eve fought his hardest against his powerful foe, but it seemed that the enemy was unstoppable. For behind him was the world's now tainted nine gems with the tenth in the center, dark energy flowed from them and it was as if the Dark One was feeding on its energy. Then the Dark One knocked Eve down, raised his sword which became engulfed by a dark light and was about to deliver the final blow. All seemed lost when suddenly a bright light flashed behind him, they and the others turned to the source of the light and saw it was from the tenth and center gem. Somehow a small portion of the center gem's pure energy had survived its shade and was lying dormant in the darkness. It felt the warriors' and their allies' righteous and noble energy and gathered its last bit of strength to burst through. The light then flowed to Eve and enveloped his weapon in light, imbued it with the energy of the Gem. With his newly powered weapon Eve struck the Dark One in the heart. With a terrible shriek, he turned into a formless cloud, his henchmen did the same and were quickly shot through the sky, and an enormous whirlwind blew against the warriors, who shielded themselves.

As they opened their eyes the world was once again alive and green, the people once again free, as if the shadow was never here. The Gem now bright and clean descended down towards them. The Warriors took the jewels down the secret path and laid it to rest in its rightful place in the heart of the world. The warriors' companions returned to their worlds victorious while the nine returned to world of the gods. The dwellers rejoiced in their victory. The worlds and their people celebrated the spirits' triumph. The three great gods smiled at their accomplishment. The awareness of other worlds came into light to the people as well as the existence of the Gems. They named them the Lifekrystals, and the ever watchful gods and peace soon returned to the worlds and its people. The victory of the nine spirits and their allies spread throughout the worlds and were passed down through generations. The people named them "The Nine Spirits of the Ten Krystals" and the allies who risked their lives to assist the Nine were called "The Guardians of the Krystals." The stories of their hardships, their bravery and their friendships that gave them the strength to defeat the evil Dark One and his minions and banish them from their world for all time . . . . or so they hoped lived on.

Centuries passed since the Shadow Times or the Reign of Darkness. The tales of the nine spirits became legends. Slowly the knowledge of the nine spirits, the existence of the Lifekrystals as well as the knowledge of other worlds began to fade from the people's memories and eventually became legendary myths. Even the name and deeds of the guardians were forgotten through the passage of time. The people began changing the name of the nine spirits, from Nine Spirits of the Ten Krystals to the Nine Elemental Spirits, the Nine Companions, the Nine Warriors or the Nine Protectors. Soon the only one name remained in the minds of the people, the Spirits of the Crystals.
